You will need to have a reasonable baseline fitness for this expedition. The 7 day Machame Route takes in walks of 6-7 hrs a day for all 7 days (plus extra hiking on summit night). If you can walk 15km on consecutive days without difficulty, you should be fit enough to climb Kilimanjaro.
One of the reasons True Summit Adventures opts for the 7 day Machame Route is because it offers ample acclimatisation time. Everyone responds to altitude differently, with some people feeling no effects at all. In all likelihood, you'll develop mild symptoms such as a headache or slight feeling of nausea.
We don't have age limits because summitting Kilimanjaro has more to do with mental and physical health rather than age. Our oldest summiter to date was 64. We look forwards to welcoming even older expedition members in the near future!
We use one of the best high-altitude chefs in the world to make meals on Kilimanjaro as tasty as possible. Dishes usually comprise large servings of meat and vegetables, alongside energy-rich carbohydrates such as rice, pasta, and potatoes.
Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free dishes are also available.
Most expedition members are happy wearing nothing more than a T-shirt while hiking. At stops and at camp you'll need to layer up, especially as altitude increases. The kit list we provide gives more information on what you'll need to pack.
